July 1st

This was the major protest about a block from where we live

Yesterday was July 1st. Known as Canada day and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day. While Canada is a happy holiday with Canadian pride, the holiday here sparks protests. There were hundreds of police around the city and streets were blocked off for the protest marches.

We decided to get out of the city to escape the crowds and go to Repulse Bay Beach instead. Finding the bus was a bit difficult because a lot of the routes had to be changed and the usual bus stop we would have used was in the middle of a protest. But we found it and half an hour later arrived in Repulse bay.

RB has a reputation of being busy so this was a nice surprise

There was a hotel up from the beach built around Chinese superstition. According to legends a dragon flies down from the mountain to the beach every year so when a hotel was built, they left a space for the dragon.
